Özet:

The historical Silk Road, ruled by various nations over time, remains a major route for many settlements today. For centuries, various tribes, states, and empires competed over this route. These conflicts highlighted the Silk Roads importance not only historically but also culturally and socially. With the Republics proclamation, provinces and districts were established across Anatolia. The historical Silk Road, passing through significant parts of Southeastern Anatolia, made the city of Şanlıurfa and the disrict of Viranşehir critical during important historical periods. As its name suggests, Viranşehir, having faced wars, natural disasters, and plundering, has repeatedly been destroyed and rebuilt, yet its name persists due to its association with destruction. Culturally influenced by various tribes, Viranşehir was a center of knowledge from ancient times. However, many institutions vanished due to wars and destruction. This research aims to explore the educational history of Viranşehir, a field previously unexamined academically, and to discover sources indicating where the first schools might have been. Additionally, it seeks to contribute to urban awareness by accessing hard-to-reach information through archives and detailed research. Records show that educational activities existed as early as the 16th century during the Ottoman period, and findings from even earlier periods are expected. This study intends to provide valuable insights for researchers in enhancing urban consciousness and preserving the citys collective memory.
