Özet:

The two catastrophic earthquakes that struck Kahramanmaraş nine hours apart, inflicted devastating damage upon nearbouring provinces Global aid has made a significant contribution to the relief and mitigation following these disasters. In addition to humanitarian aids such as food, clothing, and shelter supplies delivered from all over the world, thousands of search and rescue teams, volunteers and healthcare personnel have also deployed the affected region. The linguistic challenges encountered by the foreign teams were surmounted through the invaluable assistance of community interpreters, who can also be considered as the cultural intermediaries. In this study, these community interpreters personal lives, education, past experiences, linguistic qualification and competences, roles and experiences in the earthquake area is examined using the qualitative analysis approach in light of Pierre Bourdieus concepts of habitus, capital and illusio, and will be evaluated in terms of the sociology of translation. By evaluating aforementioned dynamics of the community interpreters, who voluntarily took part in the Kahramanmaraş earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, this study aims to examine the reflections of community interpreting in the field in Türkiye and to review the obtained data in the light of the sociology of translation and Pierre Bourdieus concepts of habitus, capital and illusio.
