Özet:

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the attitudes and behaviors of intern doctors regarding oral dental health. Method: The cross-sectional study included 238 final year students from Mersin University Faculty of Medicine in the 2023-2024 academic year. A questionnaire consisting of 25 questions and a 20-question Hiroshima University-Dental Behavioral Inventory HU-DBI scale were used as data collection tools. Student t test, ANOVA test, Spearman Rank Correlation were used in the analysis. Multiple Linear Regression Analysis was used for the significant variables and p0.05 was considered significant. Results: The mean HU-DBI score of the students participating in the study was calculated to be 5.41.7. There is no correlation between increasing age and scale score r-0.05, p0.05. There was no statistically significant relationship between gender and scale score p0.05. A statistically significant correlation was found between the HU-DBI score and flossing, receiving oral dental health education, the need for oral dental health education, having a spouse, and the habit of going to the dentist regularly p0.05. In addition, a weak positive correlation was found between the number of daily tooth brushing r0.2, p0.01 and the number of tooth extractions r0.2, p0.05 and the scale score. Significant variables were included in multiple linear regression analysis, and the need for oral dental health education and oral dental health education were found to be significant p0.05. Conclusion: In our study, it was determined that the oral and dental health attitudes and behaviors of senior medical faculty students were at a moderate level. This result shows that oral dental health behaviours are not sufficient in physician candidates who will be at the center of health services.
