Özet:

By using the conceptual possibilities of the sociology of affect, this study tries to establish a relationship between politics and spiritual movements, which are generally called apolitical, aiming at individual change and self-development. Benefited from the data set from a field research we conducted between 2018 and 2020; the article claims that spiritual movements appeal largely to emotions as well as their spiritual qualities and they are carrying out a kind of an affective politics and trying to build an alternative affective public sphere. For this purpose, we will first try to explain what we mean by politics of affect and then why we evaluate spiritual movements in this context. Thus, we aim to contribute to both the sociology of affect and spiritual movements literatures. In this context, we will first discuss concepts such as affect, emotion, public feelings and affective politics within the framework of sociology of affect. Then we will discuss the relationships between spirituality, emotions and politics and try to relate them to the findings from the field. The article will end with a general evaluation of our results.
