Özet:

In this study, on one hand, the influences of past civilisations, which were experienced in the development of Islamic geometric ornaments were examined chronologically, on the other hand, contemporary interactions of those civilisations, which lived in the same era, were investigated periodically. For this to be achieved, the basic patterns, which were observed on some of the most prominent art works were examined chronologically in order to find out if there were any influences of previous ages arts on those of the eras ahead. The question of Were there any interactions among the geometric ornament patterns of those Islamic Civilisations lived in the similar era? was also investigated through examining the artworks of the most known Islamic civilisations lived in the same period. Findings revealed that those geometric patterns, which were used in the Islamic geometric ornaments, were developed through both vertical chronologically and horizontal periodical interaction. Vertical interaction refers to the effects of ornament art of a civilisation on those of the following civilisations lived in the same or close geography, while horizontal interaction is the one, in which the geometric ornament art of an Islamic Civilisation was affected by those of contemporary Islamic Civilisations. As a conclusion, it was understood with this study that the development of Islamic geometric ornaments is not immune to the historical and perodical influences. Contrarily, it was developed under the influence of both previous and contemporary civilisations. Following studies are expected to contribute to filling a crucial gap in the literature in terms of the quality and dimensions of those influences, which were experienced on the Islamic Ornament Arts.
