Özet:

Folk medicine is an integral part of the folk culture. Folk medicine is transferred from generation to generation in the socio-cultural structure, includes diagnosis and treatment practices based on traditional knowledge of the health and disease system, and based on various prevention and treatment practices.. Folk medicine there are two varieties: 1 Natura, herbal folk medicine, 2 Magico-religious folk medicine. In this article, a general evaluation is made from this point of view. This classification is based on the categorizations made by Yoder 1975, Hufford 2007, and Bayatlı 1989 in the literature. This research aims to identify the folk medicine practices and traditional knowledge related to folk medicine that are present within the health-disease culture of Alevi villagers living in Malatya and are inherited by the past generations. Carried out using the purposeful sampling method in line with the ethnographic design of the qualitative research model, the data analyzed in the present study were obtained through interviews with 33 participants. These data were descriptively analyzed considering the relevant literature. Folk medicine and related practices constitute one of the core fields of everyday life culture among people living in the rural areas of Malatya. The health-disease culture, which has been established for villagers particularly within the context of plants, herbs, animal, and mineral products, is functional in fighting against challenging conditions of life. Traditional knowledge related to health and disease also holds a significant place in ensuring the sustainability of rural life. Although advancements in modern medicine, as well as in various other fields, have a transformative effect on traditionality, folk medicine remains its existence.
