Özet:

Playing digital games is an established phenomenon today, and these games have similar features to many cultural industry products. The fact that games are not only standard products on the market but also an imitation of reality creates cavities where the individual can hide by escaping the pain of the real. However, while it is possible to play digital games, it is surprising to watch the videos of these games. In this sense, this research focuses on the motivations for watching gaming video content, which is also an imitation, and how the audience affects by these videos. The research unit is the comments of Ersin Yekin, who shoots PubG Mobile gaming content, on his YouTube channel on April 12, 2019, Fight 50 People vs. Prison Like a Movie 46 Kills Squad Pubg Mobile content. In this research, qualitative content analysis was used. Comments were subjected to a three-step coding process using MAXQDA. In this context, three main themes were identified: activating watching, deactivating playing, and activating playing. In this context, its seen that the main motivation for the audience to watch the content is entertainment and to experience a feeling of tension. The second theme shows that the audience prefers to watch rather than play. The reason for this is that the individual gets satisfaction heshe will get while playing effortlessly while watching. The third theme shows that the video creates a sudden and temporary desire to play in a small number of viewers. While digital games filter the difficulties of real life, gaming contents filter the difficulties of playing. Thus, the individuals capacity to perceive the complex decreases one more level, and therefore, the capacity to think critically about reality as a difficult act is destroyed one more level too. In order to explain this destruction process, the concept of double-layer passivation is proposed in the Conclusion.
