Özet:

The International Council of Museums ICOM, founded in 1946 to discuss changes in museum philosophy, has celebrated 18 May as Museum Day IMD since 1977 to increase the visibility of museums. Since 1992, themes parallel to ICOMs definition of museum and new approaches have been adopted. In the last decade, themes have shifted towards sustainability, accessibility, inclusion and cultural diversity. Since 2020, museum day themes have followed and met the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This study covers a six-year monitoring period as a follow-up to the study Which Museum? Change in Museum Studies and the New Museology published in 2018, which critically focused on the ways in which Turkish museums monitor the changes in philosophy in the international museum community and their responses to museological approaches. The research draws a current picture of Turkish museology with examples of events that took place around the theme of Museum Day in Türkiye between 2019 and 2024. By extending the studys scope from 2007-2018 to 2019-2024, it has made a sustainable map of the relationship between Museums Day and museums in Türkiye. In this study, the types, scope and impact of the Museum Day events after 2019 organised in Türkiye are discussed. It was found that museums in Türkiye play an active role in Museum Day programmes and organise events that are inclusive, sustainable and focus on cultural diversity. In this context, during the monitoring process, the changes in museum philosophy, theories and practices brought about by the International Museum Day within the scope of the United Nations Development Goals were analysed again, and future proposals for Museum Day and museum philosophy were discussed.
