Özet:

Turkish modernization movements in the Ottoman period started in the 19th century. The ideas that started with the New Ottomans and continued with the Young Turks had a great impact on this political, economic and social transformation based on Westernization. At that time, The Young Turks were influential in laying the foundations of the Committee of Union and Progress, which had Sultan II. Abdulhamit proclaimed the Kanun-i Esasi and caused him to be dethroned in the following process. In this study, Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın, who is a political actor and especially his journalistic aspect, and the effect of his westernist thought on Turkish journalism and political life will be discussed. In this study, where the document analysis method was used, the works written by himself, his autobiographies and the works written about him were used and Yalçıns journalistic aspect was examined. As a result, there has been someone who has seen both sides of the relationship between the press and politics at the same time in some periods. However, circumstances led him to criticize the ideas he was a defender of at some times and to defend the ideas he criticized.
