Özet:

This study was conducted on the short life story and French translation of the world-famous Dist. Prof. Cahit Arf, who was included in the Short Life Stories Series and Translation Project of Personalities Leading the Turkish State and Thought Life initiated in 2020 under the auspices of the Presidency of Atatürk Cultural Centre to introduce Turkish greats to young people between the ages of 16-20. The research is an interdisciplinary study that combines the subjects of education policies of the early republican period, intellectuals sent abroad, and the function of foreign language schools with the subject areas of translation, language, and cultural studies. This study aims to analyze the transfer of cultural elements in the French translation of Arfs short life story in line with the translators decisions. The research is essential as it is the first study that includes history, education, and translation studies. The study analyzed the Turkish source work by Yıldıray Ozan and the French by Yasemin Tanbi. The cultural elements that best reflect the period in the source work have been handled under eight headings with the classification of linguistic, social, religious, economic, geographical, daily life, ethnographic elements, and proper names, and the translators decisions in the translation of these elements into French have been analyzed in tables with the comparative analysis technique in line with the translation strategies as stated by Mine Yazıcı. It was concluded that both translation strategies were effective in translator decisions.

Bulgular her kültürel öge özelinde değerlendirilmiştir. Çevirmen kararlarında her iki çeviri stratejisinin de etkili olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
