Özet:

The Population Exchange between Turkey and Greece was grounded on the idea of exchanging people based on their religion. However, some people were not involved in the Exchange for different reasons, even if they were mandated to. These people, mainly consisting of women and children, avoided the Exchange through marriage and adoption, or were taken as servants. Those who escaped the Exchange converted to the locally dominant religions and concealed their real stories. This article focuses on the hidden stories of the Greeks who were not included in the Turkey-Greece exchange and stayed in Turkey, their conversion processes, and the reasons for the long silence. It was concluded that although these people concealed their transformation stories, they coped with the situation they were in by incorporating spiritual practices specific to the previous culture into their lives with the help of communicative and cultural memory.
