Özet:

One of the most significant fields of study in onomastics is personal names. Analyzing the personal names of a language is extremely important for providing crucial information about the culture of that society, its interaction with other cultures, and its social perspective. The Turkish language, with its first known written documents dating back to the 8th century, offers rich material regarding personal names. The already established name-giving traditions of the Turkic peoples have acquired various characteristics with the religions they have adopted and the cultures they have interacted with. Personal names in historical texts and modern Turkic languages have been analyzed philologically and in terms of name-giving tradition by many researchers. Previous studies have shown that male names in historical texts are much more common than female names. There are certainly sociological and cultural reasons for this. Among historical Turkic texts, the dictionaries of the Mameluke-Kipchak field provide rich material in terms of both male and female names. This article aims to investigate the womens names found in the five major dictionaries and grammar books written in the Mameluke-Kipchak field, namely Kitābul-İdrāk li Lisānil-Etrāk, Kitâb-ı Mecmû-ı Tercümân-ı Türkî ve Acemî ve Mugalî, Et-Tuhfetüz-Zekiyye fi l-Lûgati Türkiyye, El-Ķavaninul-Külliyye Li-Žabtil-Luġatit-Türkiyye, and Ed-Dürretül-Mudîʻa fi Luġatit-Türkiyye. The goal of the study is to investigate the womens names contained in these works in terms of semantics, etymology, and folklore. In this article, the female names in five major dictionaries and grammar books written in the Mameluke-Kipchak field are discussed. In the study, 34 womens names were identified, 16 of which were quoted; Of these, 4 female names consist of 1 Turkish and 1 borrowed name. These names, examined in alphabetical order, are analyzed from etymological and semantic perspectives, with attempts made to uncover their appearances in historical Turkic languages and contemporary Turkish. The study concludes with the classification of womens names based on their structure and meaning.
