Özet:

Throughout history, people have sought to facilitate their lives by dividing time into segments. Time has been categorized into units such as hours, days, months, and years. Folk calendars are elements of intangible cultural heritage, developed during periods when technology was not yet advanced and people lived with limited resources. These calendars were shaped by the environment in which people lived and their accumulated cultural experiences. The main purpose of this study is to record the special dates determined by the Uzbeks regarding the folk calendar and the words they say about these dates with a scientific study without being lost. In this context, a literature review was conducted using sources written in various languages. Additionally, fieldwork was carried out in several cities, primarily in Samarkand and Tashkent. Folk calendar data were compared with meteorological records obtained from the Tashkent Meteorological Station to assess whether traditional knowledge aligned with climatic realities. Descriptive and comparative analysis methods were employed in the research. Various cultural and meteorological elements were identified in the Uzbek folk calendar. It was found that summer is the season with the highest number of calendar-related elements. This is attributed to the fact that summer lasts longer in Uzbekistan compared to other seasons. Folk calendar studies hold a significant place in cultural geography. Since they are components of oral culture, it is vital to preserve them through academic documentation before they are lost.
