Özet:

The Prometheus myth is a significant metaphor for understanding humanitys relationship with nature and technology, maintaining its relevance from ancient times to contemporary contexts. Prometheus, who stole fire from the gods and gifted it to humanity, symbolizes the progress of civilization, technological advancement, rebellion, and liberation. This study focuses on the archetypal and symbolic meanings of fire within the Prometheus myth and examines its use in contemporary art as a medium and form of expression. The research analyzes the works of Bill Viola, Yves Klein, Ana Mendieta, and Claire Fontaine to explore the historical and cultural representation of fire. It examines the physical and conceptual dimensions of fire in artistic practices, where it serves as a metaphor for creation, transformation, and resistance. These themes reflect the artists engagement with globalization, political power, and traditional identities. Through these works, fire emerges as a critical tool for addressing social and cultural narratives while symbolizing renewal and dissent. In conclusion, the Prometheus myth and fire imagery go beyond their aesthetic function to become tools for critique in contemporary art. This study highlights how mythology intersects with artistic practices, showing how fire is reinterpreted and transformed into a powerful medium for expression.
