Özet:

Universities are transforming their traditional structures and achieving diversity in their mission, vision and objectives. In addition to their education, training, research and development duties, universities support regional development in terms of serving society. This new model, based on national and international collaborations, RD studies, innovation, production of value-added products and commercialization of these products, has found a place in Turkey under the name of mission differentiation and specialization in regional development. In order for these universities to play important roles in the development of the regions in which they are located, as well as education, the Regional Development Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project was implemented by the Council of Higher Education YÖK in 2015 for the specialization of universities. In this study, relational research methods and document analysis methods were used and literature information in the field was used. Within the scope of the study, the role of regional development-oriented mission differentiation and specialization project in regional development is explained, and by including the studies of specialized universities, it is revealed in which areas, and with which projects these universities contribute to regional development.
