Özet:

When speaking of classical sociology and sociologists, the first thing that comes to mind is the German and French sociological tradition and sociologists. These two traditions have a great role in the emergence and development of sociology as a discipline and its institutionalization as a result of activities such as the foundation of associations or courses at universities. At the same time, due to their internal dynamics, the sociological approach of these two traditions and the approach of the founders also diverge. This distinction becomes particularly visible when we look at the works and social analysis styles of names such as Max Weber on the one hand and Emile Durkheim on the other. However, Georg Simmel takes a different place in the German tradition with his unique approach and style; Although his approach is originated within the German tradition of thought, its sociological analysis, the issues it deals with, and the way it conceptualizes the issues are unique. At the same time, we see that Simmels approach plays an important role in the basis of sociological research, especially since the mid-20th century. His sociological approach focuses on the society in general, but he looks from a more micro-sociological perspective. This approach has been adopted particularly by the mid-20th century because it enabled researchers to tackle social issues from various angles instead of providing meta-analyses. In order to understand Georg Simmel and his sociology, it is necessary to look at both the political and social conditions that has shaped him and the developments in his own life. This study presents the political, social and intellectual conditions in Germany in order to shed light on Simmel and his sociology along with his life, work and conceptualization in sociology.
