Özet:

The image of Araz has a special weight in Azerbaijani oral and written literature. After the Gulistan treaty signed between Iran and Tsarist Russia in 1813, the division of Azerbaijan into South and North Azerbaijan, with the Araz river as the border, led to the use of Araz as a literary image. Araz, which is included in various examples of folklore, became the subject of written literature after that. Also, in the examples of oral folk literature, examples of addressing Araz and having problems with Araz increased. The folk poetry collected from Nakhchivan and the written literature created here were selected in this sense. Considering that the Araz River originates from the Eastern Anatolian region of Turkey - Alagöz Mountain in Erzurum, it should be taken for granted that Araz is also reflected in the folklore of that region. We see the use of the image of Araz in the examples of poems of oral folk literature, especially in bayatis, songs, and folk songs. In the article, the reference to the image of Araz in the examples of folk poetry collected from Nakhchivan and Eastern Anatolia, the place and importance of the image of Araz as a subject were paid attention to, and those examples were included in the research.
