Özet:

The challenges brought by climate change pose irreversible threats to the world.the media serves as a crucial mechanism in order to share the work of scientists on the climate crisis and its potential effects with the public, raise awareness among the public and urge political actors to establish goals related to the climate crisis. The public must be accurately and sufficiently informed about the climate crisis and the dangers it presents, in order to develop an adequate level of awareness. This study aims to highlight the importance of media coverage on the climate crisis, emphasizing the need for delivering the impacts and consequences of the crisis to the public with correct terminological framework, in order to foster a collective awareness toward addressing the crisis. For this purpose, a content analysis was conducted on climate crisis news articles found on alternative media platforms such as iklimhaber.org and yesilgazete.org, as well as on mainstream news websites like Hurriyet and Sabah. The findings suggest that alternative media tends to frame climate crisis news from a political and economic perspective, with distinct news categories compared to mainstream media. However, the content structure of climate news in alternative media was found to resemble that of mainstream media.
