Özet:

We can evaluate the period of Kievan Rus in Russian history as a period shaped largely by Scandinavian and Byzantine influence on the political-military-religious plane. Varangians by force resolved the conflict between the principalities in the Slavic lands, where they came for prey, and established dominion in those lands. In this context, the article examined the views on the origin of the founders of the Old Russian state, known as Varangian-Rus, and also presented the arguments of main researchers supporting the Norman theory. In the article, Karamzins views, who developed his approaches, being impressed by ideas about origin of Prince Runik of Normanian school, headed by Bayer and Muller; were largely addressed. The article also presented information about August Ludwig von Schlözer, one of the key figures in Russian historiography in second half of 18th century, and his works.
