Özet:

The movie "In The Mood For Love", which is the axis of this study, narrates a story of a man and a woman who become neighbours in Hong-Kong of the 60s. Their friendship which begins firstly due to their loneliness caused by long business trips of their partners, gains a new meaning with time. But how does this movie, after having seen thousands of similar stories on cheating, differentiate from the others and obtain the key role to explore Hong-Kong cinema anew on the international platform with its success in the Cannes Film Festival of 2000? The main goal of this study which focuses on answering this question, is to bring attention to the importance of cinematographic narration technics which goes far beyond the theme in the cinema, and to show how a movie which is based profoundly on a simple story gains depth and gives an opportunity for diverse readings with the delicacy of its narration. The movie is going to be examined in terms of its cinematographic narration techniques which especially discusses the treatment of 'time' phenomenon, and this examination will stand on the concept of "narratology" which was created by Todorov in 1969 and developed as a discipline by Genette in 1972.
