Özet:

Studies on climate change, which affect many areas and settlements on a global scale, gained momentum in the 20th century. Climate change causes various negativities in cities due to problems such as extreme heat, drought, precipitation, floods, water scarcity and increase in sea level. In parallel with the population increase in cities, the number of people will be affected by global climate change will also increase. Due to the limited number of studies emphasizing the relationship between urban growth and climate change in the Marmara Region in general and in Yalova specifically, Yalova province, which is located in the Marmara Region and has a coastal settlement feature, was chosen as the study area. The aim of the study is to reveal the climatic change in Yalova by addressing the urban development in the historical process and current characteristics and to make suggestions by determining the situation of the province in climate change scenarios. In this context, the Marmara Region and Yalova province were evaluated in terms of climate, urban growth and population. Urban areas and population are increasing throughout the Marmara Region and in Yalova, and climatic changes have been felt more intensely recently. According to the scenarios, the Marmara Region and Yalova will experience the reflections of climate change as extreme temperatures and excessive precipitation. Depending on the attractiveness of the province due to its location, it is estimated that the population and construction will increase, especially with the development in the tourism and industrial sectors, and therefore the urban heat island effect will gradually increase. Its proximity to the seaside and the concentration of construction on the coast indicate that it will be adversely affected by a possible rise in sea level.
