Özet:

The Peloponnesian Wars were a long-running conflict between the two powers that emerged in the region following the withdrawal of the Persians from the Greek peninsula after the Greco-Persian Wars, taking place between 431 and 404 BC. At the heart of this twenty-seven-year-long conflict lay Athens expansion through its naval and economic power, which Sparta perceived as a threat. The war consisted of three phases: the Archidamian War, the Peace Process, and the Sicilian Expedition. Sparta, which did not have a navy, managed to gain the upper hand in the Sicilian Expedition by receiving significant support from the Persians in the final stage of the war, and the Peloponnesian Wars ended with a heavy defeat for Athens. This situation would accelerate the rise of Macedonia in the following period.
