Özet:

This study examines North by Northwest 1959, one of the key works of Alfred Hitchcock, within the framework of auteur theory. Recognized as one of the most influential directors in cinema history, Hitchcock approached filmmaking not merely as a visual storytelling medium but as an artistic expression of personal creativity and individuality. This paper analyzes Hitchcocks creative control, distinctive cinematic language, and thematic depth in the film, emphasizing his status as an auteur. Hitchcocks films stand out for the innovations they bring to the thriller genre, characterized by their ability to sustain prolonged tension and engage the audience emotionally. North by Northwest exemplifies this approach through its depiction of a mistaken identity narrative, where an ordinary individual is drawn into an extraordinary adventure. Hitchcocks dynamic visual storytelling, iconic use of camera angles, and themes with psychoanalytic depth define the films unique identity. The legendary scene of the protagonist being pursued by a airplane in an open field highlights Hitchcocks technical mastery and his ability to evoke psychological suspense. The study evaluates North by Northwest in light of the three core principles of auteur theory: technical competence, distinctive style, and internal meaning. Hitchcocks signature technique, the MacGuffin, serves as a key narrative device, bringing focus to character-driven conflict while maintaining thematic complexity. Additionally, the interplay of psychological tension, humor, and social critique enriches the films multi-layered narrative. In conclusion, North by Northwest is an example of Hitchcocks auteur identity. By exploring his creative vision and unique approach to filmmaking, this study underscores Hitchcocks significant contribution to auteur theory and modern cinema.
