Özet:

Aras and Kur Kura Rivers form the largest river basin in the South Caucasus. These rivers make a significant contribution to the economic growth and development of the states established in the region. Due to its geographical location, the Kur River basin is located on the roads connecting Anatolia and the Caucasus. Due to its geographical location, the basin in question has been a trade route since the early periods of history, as well as being in a strategic position in the connection between the South Caucasus and the Persian Gulf. It allows transportation to Europe via the Black Sea connection and to Asia via the Caspian Sea. Thus, it enables connection between north-south and east-west directions. The parts of this river basin outside the borders of Turkey have been the subject of many scientific studies, however, there has not yet been a comprehensive study on the parts within the borders of Turkey. For this reason, Ardahan-Kür River Basin was determined as the study area in our surface survey. With the first season study carried out in Ardahans Çıldır district in 2019, the settlements, natural andor man-made caves, rock settlements, movable and immovable cultural assets in the Kür River basin were identified and documented; These places were transferred to the GIS-Geographic Information Systems environment. The Ardahan-Kür River basin has been partially the subject of various scientific studies in previous periods. There are centers in the area in question that have been registered and included in the cultural inventory. In addition, in our surface research work, we have tried to make scientific determinations of historical and archaeological centers that have not been registered and have not yet been introduced to the scientific world. In addition, necessary applications have been made to the Ministry of Culture for the protection and registration of some areas identified within the scope of the project, especially against human destruction, and for rescue excavations.
