Abstract

The electronic records management system provides great opportunities to or-ganizations for the removal of the bureaucratic structure and the establishment of a transparent, rapid, and accountable structure. Although organizations are successful in providing or developing an ERMS, they are faced with some prob-lems in the realization of the ERMS implementation. This results in negative ex-periences for the organization and casts doubt on their confidence regarding per-forming activities in the electronic environment. Blaming the suppliers or only the software for the failure of the implementations will similarly lead to unsuc-cessful and idle systems in terms of electronic records implementations during future attempts. At this point, the main issue that has to be especially empha-sized by organizations is that the success of the ERMS implementation in the or-ganization is not only dependent on the software. The objective of this study is presenting technical and management issues that are required to achieve suc-cess in the process of transitioning to the ERMS implementation, under the light of the experience acquired from the literature and the field. In this paper, the failure subjects that are expressed with the risk term will be presented in an or-ganized and awareness increasing manner in order to help organizations succeed in the implementation of the ERMS. The risks that influence the success of the ERMS implementation process and the measures that have to be taken can guide those who are responsible for performing these tasks in organizations.

Keywords: Electronic records management, risk definitions, challenges in ERMS implementation.
