Özet:

The idea that God is one and unique is referred to in philosophy as monotheism and is opposed to polytheistic systems. In theistic traditions, Gods uniqueness, which means that God has no equal or likeness, is considered one of the fundamental attributes of God. In Islamic culture, the uniqueness of God is expressed in the concept of tawhid, and the onenessuniqueness of God is given great importance. Polytheistic beliefs and idolatry are strongly condemned and Gods oneness is tried to be proved. This study examines the views of al-Fārābī and Avicenna, two prominent philosophers in Islamic culture, on the unity of God. These two philosophers consider unity as one of the aspects of the oneness of God, which is a broader notion. Oneness is Gods being one in number and having no equal, likeness, counterpart, or opposite in His rank. The other aspects of oneness are simplicity, which means that Gods essence is not composed of various parts, and completeness, which means that Gods essence is not incomplete in any respect but is perfect in every respect. In our study, we have first touched upon the other aspects of Gods oneness, and then the first aspect of oneness, unity, is emphasized. In this context, how al-Fārābī and Avicenna justify Gods oneness and the arguments they put forward on this issue are analyzed.
