Özet:

Art and politics are intertwined in an organic relationship, shaped by the influence of social dynamics. The potential of art to serve as an ideological propaganda tool has had a profound impact on the artistic production processes and the content of artworks. In this regard, as in other artistic disciplines, wall paintings emerge as one of the most significant fields in which the interaction between art and politics can be most concretely observed. The objective of this study is to examine the wall painting created by Ayetullah Sumer for the TCDD Headquarters Building and to analyze the reflections of the political transformations of the period in this artwork. Ayetullah Sumer, in addition to being one of Türkiyes leading mural artists, occupies a prominent position in the history of Republican-era art as the founder of the Fresco Workshop in academia. Sumer contributed to the artistic and cultural identity of the period through his murals commissioned by numerous state institutions and banks. Among these works, one of the most significant examples is the mural located in the TCDD Headquarters Building in Ankara. Completed in 1947, this artwork is situated in the conference room and is noteworthy not only for its artistic merit but also for its reflection of the political transformations of the era. The mural in question depicts the opening ceremony of the Sivas Railway, held in 1930. The mural in the TCDD Headquarters Building is a significant work that has been profoundly shaped by the political atmosphere of its time and has faced the imminent risk of disappearance. This artwork stands out for its capacity to explicitly illustrate the influence of Türkiyes political climate on artistic production. The purpose of this study is to introduce Ayetullah Sumers mural through scientific data and to examine it within the context of Republican-era muralism. Additionally, the study aims to assess the impact of the political climate of the period on mural art and to explore the relationship between art and politics through a specific case. To this end, methods such as research and documentation, archival and collection surveys, and descriptive analysis were employed to investigate the mural, resulting in the identification of new insights into the interaction between the political atmosphere of the time and artistic expression.
