Özet:

Human-nature interaction has been ongoing since the existence of mankind. During this interaction, mankind has both been affected by nature and affected nature. Mankind has named the objects around him during this process. One of these namings is village names. Village names provide important information about the natural and human characteristics of a region. Thanks to village names, the geographical characteristics, settlement history, cultural heritage and social characteristics of the region are understood. While some village names are given according to physical geography elements such as topography, lithology, hydrography or biogeography, some village names are given according to human geography elements such as personal name, transportation, economic activity, tools and equipment. In the study, the names of 21 villages affiliated to the Hasankeyf district of Batman province were examined geographically. Hasankeyf and its immediate surroundings are located in the north of Mesopotamia, one of the first settlements in the world. The settlements are distributed on the syncline area in the south of the district with the Tigris Valley. Village names belonging to physical geography elements are more common in the district 57.2. Village names related to human geography are less 42.8. Accordingly, among the villages that take their names from physical geography features, hydrography ranks first with a rate of 13, while among the villages that take their names from human geography features, transportation-related village names rank first with a rate of 13.
