Özet:

In this article, the management change at the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts İKSV in the early 1990s and the transformations that this situation brought about in the Istanbul Biennial are analyzed through the 4th Istanbul Biennial. Along with these developments, the criticisms and comments raised against the biennial in the art scene are also included and discussed. Thanks to the efforts of Melih Fereli, who took over the management of the foundation, and Rene Block, who later became the curator of the biennial, a biennial that made a global impact was organized, and the International Istanbul Biennial succeeded in positioning itself at the forefront of contemporary biennials. On the other hand, the biennial, which has a meaning that has not yet been established for the Turkish art scene, has also brought about debates and interpretations in many areas. The biennial has been discussed in many areas, from its single selection to its foreign curator, from its choice of venue to its choice of artists and its theme. Through these issues, comments and criticisms of different names from the art scene are included. In the process of the study, firstly, a literature review was conducted in various national libraries, and then the relevant texts in the periodical archives of the period were accessed and analyzed. In addition to examining the basic sources written in the field, all kinds of written and printed new information and data obtained from periodicals were included in the text.

Alanda yazılmış temel kaynakların incelenmesi yanında süreli yayınlardan elde edilen her tür yazılı, basılı yeni bilgi ve verilere metinde yer verilmiştir.
