Özet:

The beginning of the Crusader invasions was the beginning of a troubled period for Muslims. In this process, Muslims, who conflicted with each other, were unable to prevent the Crusaders. In this direction, the Zengids fought the most significant struggle against them. Imād al-Dīn Zengī, who believed that defeating the Crusader armies, it was necessary first to ensure unity in the region, also had to fight with the surrounding Muslim emirates and states. For this purpose, he defected to Ayyûb and Shîrkûh after he was defeated during a struggle around Tikrît. Imād al-Dīn never forgot the kindness of these brothers who helped him in this difficult time and welcomed them when they took refuge with him. However, after his death, Ayyūb and Shīrkūh had to separate, and Shīrkūh remained in the service of the Zengids, while Ayyūb came under the command of the Dımashk Atabeyate. Shīrkūh began to play a more active role in the Zengid Empire from this period onwards, and his first and perhaps most important act was to ensure that Nureddin became the ruler of Aleppo in 5411146. Shīrkūh, who remained loyal to Nūr al-Dīn from the first moment, skillfully managed the chaos that emerged during Imād al-Dīns death, refused to join the vizier Jamaluddin, and brought Nūr al-Dīn to Aleppo and made him the ruler. Moreover, Shīrkūh played a critical role in winning many battles thanks to his exceptional military skills. Shīrkūh, who was a gifted commander but also a good administrator and diplomat, became Nûr al-Dīns representative in the process of the annexation of Damascus to the Zengīs between 546-5491151-1154. In addition, he became the emir with the largest land in the state due to the large number of ichthas given to him. Shīrkūh was also the one who ensured the survival of the state during the periods of Nūr al-Dīns illness in 5521157 and 5531158-1159. He also played an undeniably important role in the upbringing of his nephew, Saladin, and his emergence on the stage of history.
