Özet:

In the 18th century, Tekirdağ was a small but cosmopolitan port city of great importance due to its proximity to the capital. Turks, Greeks, Jews, and those Armenians who had begun to migrate to the city in the 16th century upon the Jalali rebellions, lived together here. In Tekirdağ, Armenians generally lived in their own neighborhoods and owned businesses in bazaars and certain localities, practicing various professions. Some of them were bazirgans merchants. The Bazirgan Simavon, the subject of this study, was a merchant who specialized in the supply of fabrics. The source that provides information about Simavons profession and life is the probate tereke record dated September 2, 1769, from Rodosçuk Court Registers. Examining Simavons private and business life in line with the data obtained from the aforementioned record, the present study aims to provide information about the daily life of Armenians in Tekirdağ, to offer examples of the world of material culture by showing the items intended to be sold in the city, and introduce a profession practiced by Armenians. In this way, the study reveals data that enables comparison about the class differences of the society and presents to the reader the material world of a figure who was important both within his own community and among other groups.
