Özet:

Cinema has a powerful visual and auditory impact, and is an effective art form in terms of influencing attitudes and behaviors. The period from the proclamation of the Republic until the 1950, known as the Early Republic, corresponds to an important time period in terms of experiencing profound transformations in daily life as an outcome of revolutions. In this regard, our main objective is to highlight the role that cinema has taken on throughout the revolutionary transition that exists in everyday activities. To achieve this aim we have placed a view of Turkish modernization, which constitutes the spirit of the period, from the perspective of daily life. We then establish the historical context of our study by examining the attitude of the founders of the period towards cinema. We conducted a two-dimensional questioning to reveal the relationship between cinema and daily life in the early republican period. Firstly, we focused on the place of cinema and viewing practices in daily life as a physical space, secondly, what is reflected in everyday life through the narratives that are watched in the cinema and the public effects of these reflections. Within the scope of the study, we handle the concept of daily life with the Lefebvrian meaning and examine the place of cinema and the relationship of its narratives with daily life using the design of the ideological analysis method. As a result, we have determined that although cinema was not carried out as a state-supported project in this period when modernization steps were taken, it had a significant impact on the changes in daily life.
