Political Life in Siirt in the Multi-Party Era (1946-1950)

 World War II is an important event that also affected countries outside the war due to its consequences. The world at the end of the war; On the one hand, the Western countries led by the USA were divided into two, on the other hand, the Eastern bloc led by the Soviet Union. Turkey was also affected by this in the end, and used its side with the USA in the face of the Soviet Unions expansionist attitude, especially on the straits. As a natural consequence of this, with the establishment of the Democrat Party on January 7, 1946, Turkey has now definitively entered a multi-party system. After the Democrat Party was founded, it went to the way of organization all over the country, and this situation brought with it a struggle that has never been seen before in Turkish political history. Because the Republican Peoples Party, which is the founding party of the country, had not completed its organization in many provinces. Both parties have made great efforts to establish their organizations or to strengthen the existing ones. The present paper focuses on exactly this point. In the statement; in the process until the Democrat Party came to power with the 14 May 1950 elections, the party organizations, party struggles and elections in Siirt will be discussed with the documents obtained from the local newspapers of the period and the state archives.

 II. Dünya Savaşı, sonuçları itibariyle savaş dışında kalan ülkeleri de etkilemiş önemli bir vakadır. Savaş sonunda dünya; bir tarafta ABDnin önderliğini yaptığı Batılı ülkeler, diğer tarafta Sovyetler Birliğinin öncülüğündeki Doğu bloku şeklinde ikiye bölünmüştü. Türkiye de eninde sonunda bundan etkilenmiş ve Sovyetler Birliğinin bilhassa boğazlar konusundaki yayılmacı tutumu karşısında tarafını ABDden yana kullanmıştır. Bunun doğal bir sonucu olarak Türkiye, 7 Ocak 1946da Demokrat Partinin kurulmasıyla artık kesin olarak çok partili hayata geçmiştir. Demokrat Parti kurulduktan sonra yurdun dört bir tarafında teşkilatlanma yoluna gitmiş, bu durum Türk siyasi tarihinde o güne kadar görülmemiş bir mücadeleyi beraberinde getirmiştir. Zira ülkenin kurucu partisi unvanına sahip Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi, birçok ilde teşkilatlanmasını tamamlamamıştı. Her iki parti de teşkilatlarını kurmak veya var olanları güçlendirmek için büyük çaba içerisine girişmişlerdir. Elinizdeki bildiri tam da bu noktaya odaklanmaktadır. Bildiride; Demokrat Partinin 14 Mayıs 1950 seçimleriyle beraber iktidara gelmesine kadar olan süreçte Siirtteki parti teşkilatlanmaları, parti mücadeleleri ve seçimler, dönemin yerel gazeteleri ile devlet arşivlerinden elde edilen belgelerle ele alınmıştır.
