XX əsrin ikinci yarısında Azərbaycanda ali kitabxanaçılıq təhsili formalaşmaga başladı və professor Abuzər Xələfov bu məktəbin əsasını qoydu. 1961-ci ildə Bakı Dövlət Universitetində professor A. Xələfovun rəhbərliyi ilə müstəqil fakultəyə çevrilən kitabxanaçılıq-biblioqrafiya ixtisası 1970-1980-ci illərdə inkişaf etməkdə idi. Azərbaycan ictimaiyyəti tərəfindən tanınmış alim, əməkdar elm xadimi professor A. Xələfov yüzlərlə mütəxəssis və onlarla alim yetişdirərək milli kitabxanaşunaslıq məktəbinin əsasını qoydu. Tarix üzrə fəlsəfə doktoru, dosent Sevda Xələfova həmin məktəbin mənsubu olaraq yetişdi, formalaşdı və mənsub oldugu elmi ənənələrin layiqli davamçısı oldu. Hazırkı məqalə S. Xələfovanın bio-biblioqrafik fəaliyyətinin öyrənilməsinə, akademik mühitə daxil olunması və alimin 60-illik yubileyi məqsədi ilə təqdim olunur.
