Özet:

The main objective of the study is to calculate the Human Development Index HDI by provinces in Turkey and to determine the position of provinces of Turkey in terms of HDI in 2022. The concept of development or development for countries has been measured only in economic terms from the 1950s to the 1970s. However, it is clear that measuring development only in economic terms would remain at a very limited level. The concept of development can be defined as people living in a healthy, happy, peaceful and good environment. Development refers to cultural, social and political changes as well as income growth in a country. This study includes information on Turkeys provinces position in the HDI calculated with 2022 data. In addition, the calculation of HDI values for each province in Turkey and the classification of cities is another contribution to the literature. In the HDI calculation, the calculations made in the education dimension differed since the main index variables could not be accessed on a provincial basis. The formulation is included in the methodology section of the study. In addition, province-based evaluations on each sub-dimension of HDI are also included in the study. As a result of the study, the provinces with the highest human development in Turkey are Kocaeli, Ankara and Istanbul, while the provinces with the lowest human development are Ağrı, Şanlıurfa and Van, respectively. Of the 81 provinces in Turkey, 20 are classified as having very high human development, 59 as having high human development and 1 as having low human development.
