Özet:

This article analyzes how the Baghdad Pact, a crucial element in Turkeys Cold War foreign policy, laid the groundwork for Turkeys isolation in the Middle East. The Baghdad Pact, signed with Iraq in 1955, aimed to secure regional security and strengthen Turkeys integration into the Western bloc. However, the formation of the pact led to a deep rupture in Turkeys relations with the Arab world, causing Turkey to be perceived as an extension of the West. This study emphasizes that the Baghdad Pact, contrary to expectations, increased rather than diminished the Soviet Unions influence in the Middle East and contributed to Turkeys regional isolation. Additionally, the article highlights that the pact failed to meet Turkeys economic expectations and is considered a significant failure in its foreign policy. The article argues that the pact led to Turkey being viewed as a pro-Western actor in the Arab world, deepening Turkeys diplomatic isolation in regional and international platforms. In conclusion, the Baghdad Pact is seen as a significant turning point in Turkeys foreign policy, with an emphasis on the lessons to be learned from this experience.
