Özet:

This article examines the design of carbon-neutral cities within the context of urban and architectural sociology, focusing on the feasibility of zero-energy buildings. The global climate crisis and increasing energy demands have heightened the importance of sustainable cities and green building technologies. The primary aim of this research is to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the design of carbon-neutral cities and the applicability of zero-energy buildings through a sociological and architectural framework. The study analyzes sustainable urbanization and construction models that have emerged as solutions to the global climate crisis, emphasizing not only technical innovations but also the societal acceptability and accessibility of these approaches. It explores how sustainable urban living can be achieved by examining building energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy sources, and integration into urban infrastructure. Furthermore, factors such as social justice and accessibility are considered, and recommendations are offered to enhance the societal acceptance and widespread adoption of such projects. The proposed methodology for the study is the Integrated Socio-Technical Evaluation ISTE approach, which assesses the feasibility of carbon-neutral cities and zero-energy buildings from both technical and social perspectives. The findings indicate that while zero-energy buildings are technically feasible, widespread adoption is hindered by socioeconomic inequalities, cultural resistance, and high initial costs. The use of zero-energy buildings in carbon-neutral cities yields successful outcomes when aligned with traditional urban cultures. Although the technological infrastructure is sufficient, societal acceptance and accessibility remain limited. Local participatory planning is critical to achieving cultural compatibility. From an economic sustainability standpoint, low operating costs offer long-term advantages, yet initial investment costs remain high. The studys original contribution lies in its integrated approach, addressing carbon-neutral cities and zero-energy buildings not only from a technical perspective but also through sociological, cultural, and economic lenses.
