Özet:

The collection of poet biographies are not only valuable sources in terms of literary history, but also have great importance in terms of reflecting the social and cultural life of the period. Mecâlisün-Nefâyis, the biographies of poets written by Ali Şir Nevâyî in 896 AH 1490-1491 AD, is the first biographies written in the Turkish language. Euphemisms are added to our language world by indicating objects or verbs that are considered shameful to say, feared or avoided among the public with different concepts. One of the events that is feared because it is believed that it will happen when said is death. This study aims to reveal the euphemisms used by Nevâyî while narrating the deaths of the poets he discussed in Mecâlisün-Nefâyis. For this purpose, the anthology was examined and an attempt was made to identify death and euphemisms indicating death. It is seen that Nevâyî used different expressions while narrating the death information of the poets. The euphemisms identified were examined in two groups as 1. Euphemisms expressing death simply and directly 2. Euphemisms expressing death in an artistic style.
