Özet:

Since the earliest written and visual Turkish relics, traces of hunting in the social, religious, military, economic and political life of Turks can be found. In this study, the Istanbul section of Evliyâ Çelebi Seyahatnâmesi is discussed in the context of hunting activities. This study consists of an introduction and three main chapters. In the introduction, the importance and history of hunting in Turks is briefly explained. In the first main part, hunting activities in Istanbul throughout history are discussed within the scope of the information contained in the first volume of Evliyâ Çelebis Seyahatnâme. While the information that is scattered and intertwined in the text is handled on the axis of hunting regions, the animals hunted and used for hunting, hunting tools and methods, hunting customs and beliefs are mentioned. In addition, information about the hunting tradesmen in Istanbul and the hunting activities carried out by these tradesmen is also given. In the second main part, the vocabulary of hunting animals identified in the text was determined and a glossary was created, along with information about the origins of animal names. In the third main part, vocabulary was classified into subcategories under two main sections as land and sea animal names, and tabulated in a way suitable for comparison in terms of their originsstructures. Also, remarks have been made for animal names of Turkish origin in terms of their historical usage.
