Özet:

The theme of time has an important place in Pyotr Demyanovich Ouspenskys novel The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin 1915. In this respect, time is not considered as a chronological process but is constructed as cyclical. The intertextual method is used in constructing the theme of circular time. The term intertextuality, which points to the interaction between different texts, appears in the novel through the citations. The novel in question makes a direct reference to Robert Louis Stevensons tale called The Song of The Morrow 1900 and Friedrich Nietzsches works called Thus Spoke Zarathustra 1883. In these texts, the theme of circular time is foregrounded and is supported by philosophical elements and symbols. The snake symbol is used when referring to Thus Spoke Zarathustra through the concept of eternal return, which is a philosophical element. There are also symbols related to time in the fairy tale called The Song of The Morrow. Symbols such as hair, rope, wave, and the repeating number nine again point to a cyclical time pattern. All of these reveal similar and different aspects of the time theme in the texts. This study focuses on the theme of circular time in The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin; It aims to compare the interaction of The Song of The Morrow and Thus Spoke Zarathustra with the novel in question with an intertextual approach. Thus, while examining both the philosophical and symbolic dimensions of this theme, it aims to compare how this theme is treated in the texts.
