Özet:

In this article is basis on the issues of previous scholarly discussions about the Qaiys origin, who are a powerful tribe in history, on the basis of a comparative study in the light of new sources. First of all, the study will try to show the fallacy of the opposing opinions of Turkologists J. Marquart and F. Köprülü that the Far Eastern Qai of al-Biruni and al-Marwazī and the Qaiyg of Kashgari Mahmud do not have any relationship. In fact, the Qai and Qaiyg tribes, known as Qai during the period of the Great Hun Empire, while remained in the Far East under the name of Qai in the maelstrom of political events and continuous migrations throughout history, when they came to Turkestan, they were seen as a strong ethno-political organization separated from each other under the name of Qaiyg, whose language was predominantly Turkic-speaking. The historical sources clarify the main stages of the westward migration of the Qaiys in the 6-9th centuries and show their role in the formation of the Oghuz and Kipchak tribes in the Eurasian steppes. The tamgas of the Qaiys have been identified on stone depictions and rock reliefs of the Tengir-Too Mountains in Turkestan. The tamgas of the Qaiys in Turkestan has been identified with the previous dominance tamgas of the Western Gokturks, Türgesh and Karluks as a new strong ethno-political self-identity. In this context, the traces of the Qaiys, which have existed throughout history, are seen among all Turkic peoples in Turkestan, and their roots date back to the grouping of Eurasian nomads.
