Özet:

Disasters, epidemics and accelerating technological breakthroughs increase in the demand for science reports. However, how news meets science-related demands is a controversial issue. The aim of the study is to seek answers to how the popular styles of science journalism in Turkey are realized and how the relationship between news creating styles, common content preferences and popular themes is established. For this purpose, first of all, different theoretical perspectives on science journalism are discussed. Then, the news realeased in two months on the most visited newspaper sites are examined with content analysis method. In the analysis, it is seen that science reports are largely created by referring to single sources, and newspapers do not create them with their own facilities. In addition, it is determined that health and natural sciences and related topics are mostly included in the reports. The themes that come to the fore in the news are interestingness, improvement, warning and fear. The research also examines the relationships of themes with other preferences. Differences in formal preferences and content do not cause significant changes in popular themes. This result shows that popular demand and frame play a dominant role in the science news.
