 In this study, it is aimed to determine the perceptions of teacher candidates about the transition system to secondary education and to examine their suggestions for improving the system. Phenomenology design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research, and the study group consisted of 147 teacher candidates studying at Anadolu University in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. The data were analyzed by content analysis. One-third of the participants stated that the system had positive and negative aspects, while two-thirds stated that the process had no positive aspects. Three sub-themes related to the positive perceptions towards the Secondary Education System providing the opportunity for equality and fair assessment and placement, affecting students positively, being suitable for the realities and characteristics of the country, and five sub-themes related to negative perceptions effects on students, functioning of the system, exam structure and quality, effects on schools and understanding of education, perceptions of inequality and injustice, effects on parents were determined. In the study, it was understood that participants made suggestions for improving the system such as adopting a holistic approach, implementing a multiple and flexible assessment system, each school conducting its own exam, conducting practical exams, realizing objective and qualified measurement, conducting process-oriented measurement, evaluation and placement taking into account school grades, taking socio-cultural activities and projects into consideration in placement, and developing policies that ensure equal opportunities.

 Bu çalışmada, öğretmen adaylarının ortaöğretime geçiş sistemi ile ilgili algılarının belirlenmesi ve sistemi geliştirmeye yönelik önerilerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olan olgubilim fenomenoloji deseni kullanılmış, çalışma grubunu 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılı güz döneminde Anadolu Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören 147 öğretmen adayı oluşturmuştur. Veriler içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Katılımcıların üçte biri sistemin olumlu ve olumsuz yönlerinin bulunduğunu, üçte ikisi ise sürecin hiçbir olumlu yönünün olmadığını belirtmişlerdir. Ortaöğretime geçiş sistemine yönelik olumlu algılara ilişkin üç alt tema eşitlik ve adaletli ölçme ve yerleştirmeye fırsat vermesi, öğrencileri olumlu yönde etkilemesi, ülke gerçeklerine ve özelliklerine uygun olması, olumsuz algılara ilişkin beş alt tema Öğrenciye yönelik etkiler, sistemin işleyişi, sınavın yapısı ve niteliği, okullar ve eğitim anlayışına yönelik etkiler, eşitsizlik ve adaletsizliğe yönelik algılar, ebeveynlere yönelik etkiler belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada, sistemin geliştirilmesine yönelik olarak bütüncül bir yaklaşımın benimsenmesi, çoklu ve esnek değerlendirme sisteminin uygulanması, her okulun kendi sınavını yapması, uygulamalı sınavların yapılması, nesnel ve nitelikli ölçmenin gerçekleştirilmesi, süreç odaklı ve okul notlarının göz önünde bulundurulduğu ölçme, değerlendirme ve yerleştirmenin yapılması, sosyo-kültürel etkinlikler ve projelerin de yerleştirmelerde değerlendirilmeye alınması, fırsat eşitliğini sağlayan politikaların geliştirilmesi gibi önerilerin katılımcılar tarafından üretildiği anlaşılmıştır.
