Özet:

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to reveal mothers perceptions of childhood vaccinations through metaphors. Material and Method: In the study, a phenomenological approach, which is one of the qualitative research approaches, was used. The sample of the study consisted of 201 mothers with children aged 0-6 years in Türkiye. The data were collected using a data collection form consisting of two parts, including the participants introductory information and a metaphorical sentence including how they perceive vaccines. The data were evaluated using the content analysis technique. Results: The average age of the mothers in the study was 33.00 3.87. Of the 59 different metaphors, 71.18 n42 were in the category of vaccine acceptance, 13.56 n8 in the category of vaccine rejection and 15.26 n9 in the category of vaccine hesitation. It has been determined that mothers most frequently produced the metaphors of shield in the vaccine acceptance category, poison in the vaccine rejection category and surprise box in the vaccine hesitation category. Conclusion: As a result of the study, more than half of the mothers produced metaphors about childhood vaccines that included vaccine acceptance. However, it was revealed that mothers had perceptions of vaccine refusal and vaccine hesitancy. Keywords: Vaccine refusal, vaccine hesitancy, children, metaphor.
