Özet:

Egoism as a subject of ethical debate has been consciously or unconsciously misunderstood and criticized by many people. It has even been ignored. Especially in many ethics books, it has been given less space than other theories that are very close to it, such as hedonism and utilitarianism, or even not mentioned at all. This is not the only problem. The concept also has etymological problems. In particular, it is understood that the concept of egoism is often confused with the term egotism. Moreover, it is seen that the fact that egoism is not considered as an ethical theory in moral philosophy discussions is due to the fact that only one dimension of egoism is considered. This single dimension is its category of Psychological Egoism; it is clear that this field is a psychological description rather than an ethical theory. However, the normative dimension of Egoism is also overlooked. However, it is a fact that the two main categories at this level, Ethical Egoism and Rational Egoism, claim and strive to gain a place for themselves in the ethical field. In this study, by trying to address these efforts, the concepts of egoism-egotism will be examined and the psychological and normative forms of egoism and their basic assumptions and assumptions will be defined.
