Özet:

Tradition refers to the cultural heritage, knowledge, customs, and behaviors that a society inherits Ottoman biographical tradition represents a significant literary field that aims not only to convey information but also to develop an elegant style by harmonizing historical data with literary aesthetics. In this study, the metaphorical structure of the biographical narratives in Hadîkatül-Vüzerâ by Osmanzâde Ahmed Tâib d. 11361724 is examined, and the works place within Ottoman historiography is evaluated in a literary context. The life stories of grand viziers are presented not as mere accumulations of dry chronological information, but as literary depictions constructed with symbolic imagery and artistic style. In this respect, Hadîkatül-Vüzerâ constitutes a unique example in which metaphorical narration functions as an aesthetic form that carries historical discourse. The study approaches the metaphorical structures in the work from a thematic perspective. The births of the grand viziers are depicted as manifestations of divine providence through images of water, light, nature, and stage; their entry into the Ottoman state system is constructed through the metaphor of stepping onto the stage. Death is portrayed not merely as a physical end, but as a metaphysical ascent and a sacred journey toward divine presence. This form of narration carries profound aesthetic content that reflects the Sufi worldview and understanding of death in Ottoman society. In the work, the grand viziers merit, administrative skill, and political acumen are idealized through metaphorical narratives, thus presenting the ruler typology within an aesthetic model framework. Marriages between viziers and the dynasty are depicted not merely as individual unions, but as transfers of political and symbolic capital, symbolized through elements of jewels, crowns, and ornaments. Dismissals and removal processes are shaped around the fragile nature of power through dramatic metaphors of collapse, destruction, and catastrophe. Hadîkatül-Vüzerâ is an exceptional text in the Ottoman biographical tradition where historical data intertwines with literary symbolism and metaphorical narration prominently emerges. Osmanzâde Ahmed Tâibs style not only narrates the lives of viziers but also presents an aesthetic narrative form that reflects the Ottoman conception of politics and cultural codes.
