Özet:

With totalitarianism, which is an oppressive regime in which all powers are concentrated in a central body, absolute obedience is expected from the governed, and thus the people as a whole are chained to the political administration, not only rights and freedoms are suspended but also feelings, passions and pleasures are taken under control. In other words, totalitarian regimes realize a flawless and smooth governance mechanism by controlling every detail of the individual, from hisher emotions to hisher body, from hisher thoughts to hisher behaviour, from hisher passions to hisher desires, without skipping any detail. The novel 1984, which is a literary example of totalitarian fiction, contains important themes about what kind of resistance forces and how they come to the fore against attempts to take over the body by subjugating the soul. Therefore, the threatening dimension of the ideas, attitudes and behaviours related to aesthetic experience together with beauty, love and sexuality, which are the subject of the diaries written by Winston, the main character of the novel, the audio monologues in which he reveals his thoughts or the dialogues between him and his lover Julia, is interesting in terms of containing a theoretical generalization. The political justifications of totalitarian structures opposition to the bonds established through romantic love, to sexuality, which is a combination of intense pleasure and satisfaction that accompanies the feeling of love and intimacy in the physical and spiritual sense, to the determination of a unique lifestyle that is a symbol of the individuals self-awareness as opposed to a standard, uniform, monotonous lifestyle that is a requirement of ideological shaping, and how these acts are positioned as a means of resistance within the same political systems are the main themes of the research in the example of 1984. The study in question is addressed by interpreting the themes that emerge as a result of coding and categorizing the data on love, sexuality and beauty in the work with the content analysis technique.
