Özet:

The Balkans, located in the southeast of Europe, has a global geostrategic and geopolitical importance with its geographical location, historical and natural riches, economic value, ethnic and cultural diversity. The Balkans is an important geography that has been under the influence of many civilizations from prehistoric times to the present day. From the Roman Empire to the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire, many states have struggled for dominance in this region. The Balkans have served as a bridge between Europe, Asia and Africa throughout history. The Balkan geography, where many civilizations ruled and great powers confronted each other from time to time, has been the scene of various alliances, wars and the struggle of international power centers as a transition point between East and West. The powers that were able to control this peninsula had the opportunity to impose their own cultures on the region. Today, ongoing territorial and border disputes, ethnic and religious struggles, and discriminatory policies against minorities can occasionally lead to crises between the countries concerned. Greeces claims over Macedonia and the dispute between Greece and Turkey over many issues, particularly the Aegean Sea Islands, are examples of these. The Balkans are an important fault line in this respect. Although many of the problems between the Balkan countries have been swept under the rug for now, this fault line will be violently broken if the conjuncture is favorable.
