Özet:

The choir in traditional Turkish music, has been performed with a unison understanding throughout its history. Traditional Turkish music, which was mostly performed by small ensembles during the Ottoman period, began to be performed by larger ensembles, especially after the Republic. The providers of this are; Turkish music performing ensembles operating under institutions such as the Ministry of Culture, TRT, State Turkish Music Conservatories and private and municipal choirs established in many cities for leisure-time activities. This situation has increased the importance of the concept of conductor in the traditional Turkish music performances. Unfortunately there is not a generally accepted education system and standardization in this field in Turkey. Therefore, the concept of conductor generally takes shape by the personal skills and knowledge that the conductors bring from their past. As a result, unsatisfactory results can be encountered on behalf of traditional Turkish music as a performance in the sense of conducting. This paper examines the historical process and the current situation, questions in which situations a conductor is necessary in the traditional Turkish music performances, and makes various suggestions in order to provide a higher level of artistic Turkish music performance in the presence of a conductor. Historical and descriptive research methods were used in the study. The aim of the study is to contribute to the formation of a standardization regarding the concept of conductor in traditional Turkish music performances. Its’ scope is limited to this topic. The most basic finding is the suggestion that the subject should be handled academically by the State Turkish Music Conservatories.
