Özet:

This study examines the cultural origins of graphic patterns on building facades in Pyrgi Village, located on the Greek island of Chios. Pyrgi Village is known for continuing the tradition of adorning the walls of houses with patterns inspired by rugs brought from the East by the Genoese, where over time, these rug motifs have been etched onto the exterior walls of village houses and tradition continues with patterns being permanently inscribed on walls. The aim of the study is to understand and explain the similarities and cultural interactions between Pyrgis wall patterns, especially with Turkish rug motifs. The study extensively analyzes Pyrgis patterns using qualitative research methods such as content analysis and comparative motif analysis. Additionally, Pyrgis cultural history and interactions with other cultures are supported by literature studies. In conclusion, this study aims to explore the process of architectural ornamentation evolving into a cultural expression and trace the interactions between different cultures.
